I saw an osprey flying low in Forest Park this morning! Only the second time I remember seeing one there. Last night we went to see an old folk singer, Charlie King, at the Focal Point. A contemporary of Pete Seeger, artistic and political descendents of Woodie Guthrie. Songs full of political commentary and struggles of the common people- kind of made me nostalgic for a time when I thought we had a chance of changing anything. One song mentioned the Haymarket riot May 4, 1886, arising out of workers’ strike for an 8-hour work day. But the song’s refrain asked what happened to an 8-hour work day? And this morning I see a headline in The Nation: The End of the 8-Hour Work Day.
