Slow spring

Walked in the park today when I needed a break. The prairie has been burned recently, I can still smell the burn. Heard and saw red wings, grackles in big flocks. Goose sitting on nest. Trees have been deadwooded, they removed the big dead snag from the cottonwood tree where the redheaded woodpecker nested. It is supposed to rain and snow this Sunday, but I hope to get out to the arboretum nonetheless to see what’s going on. Myself, I am very grateful for the slow spring this year. It all happened too fast last year. My friends, however, complain about the chill. SUNDAY- Alas, no arboretum today. The weather folks are saying lots of heavy snow will make travel difficult, and it seems to have begun. I’ll have to be content with an end-of-March visit next Sunday the 31st. Today we will watch it snow!
