We had a reassuring walk at the arboretum today. Reassuring in that the plants and trees that didn’t die in the drought have greened up since the remnants of Hurricane Issac broke the drought last week. The dead trees have dropped their brown leaves and so are not as visible as they were last time we were there. There was alot more life overall- lots more birdsong, for one, and more avian activity than in the heat of summer. Even some of the flowers that didn’t bloom earlier are blooming a little now. Still, the jewelweed is conspicuously absent but for one small spot by a little pond. We did see a hummingbird, though, working a bull thistle, also a Mourning Cloak, but I didn’t get their pictures.
